TWG Motorsports and General Motors recently revealed the creation of GM Performance Power Units LLC, a new company dedicated to positioning Cadillac for entry into Formula 1 vehicle and power unit production by the close of this decade. Industry expert Russ O'Blenes has been appointed CEO of the new venture.
O'Blenes brings over 30 years of experience in motor racing engineering and currently serves as GM Motorsports Propulsion and Performance team director. His impressive career has seen him develop powertrains for championship-winning racing teams and award-winning production vehicles. He also spearheaded the creation of the GM Performance and Racing Center in Pontiac, Michigan. He played a key role in the launch of GM's eCrate initiative for performance car builders.
Work on the company's Formula 1 prototype engine technology is already in progress, with a dedicated facility for Performance Power Units LLC set to open in 2026. In the meantime, the Cadillac Formula 1 Team will be powered by Ferrari units until GM's power units receive racing approval.
