Spring 2022 Auto Maintenance Tips

Springtime is a great time to get your car ready for the warm weather ahead. Here are some tips to help keep your vehicle running smoothly this season.

Change Your Oil Regularly

One of the most important things you can do to keep your car running is to change your oil regularly. Over time, oil breaks down and becomes less effective at lubricating your engine. As a result, it can lead to increased wear and tear on your machine, eventually leading to expensive repairs.

Most mechanics recommend changing your oil every 5,000 miles or so. So spring is a great time to get into the habit of changing your oil regularly, as it will help keep your engine in good shape all summer long.

Check Your Tires

Another essential maintenance task to do in the springtime is to check your tires. Tires worn down or have low pressure can be dangerous. In addition, they can lead to several problems, including decreased fuel efficiency and reduced handling.

To check your tire pressure, use a tire gauge to measure the pressure in each tire. You can usually find the recommended pressure level on the side of the tire. If your tires are below the recommended pressure level, you can add air to them using a tire pump. You should also check your tire tread depth, which can be done using a simple penny test. Place a penny into the tread grooves of your tires. If you can see the top of Lincoln's head, your tires need to be replaced.

If you're not sure how to check your tires or don't feel comfortable doing it yourself, you can always take them to a local tire shop or mechanic and have them do it for you.

Check Your Coolant Levels

Another vital fluid to check in your car is the coolant level. The coolant helps keep your engine from overheating, and if it's low, it can lead to severe damage. To check the coolant level, locate the coolant reservoir and remove the cap. If the coolant is below the minimum level line, you'll need to add more coolant. You can do this by pouring it into the reservoir or using a funnel to pour it into the radiator.

Be sure only to add coolant that is designed for your car's make and model. Using the wrong type of coolant can damage your engine.
