If you own a newer Cadillac vehicle, it might come equipped with a hands-free power trunk or liftgate. Anyone who has ever had to open a trunk with an armful of groceries or while holding something heavy will be able to tell you how useful something like this is. To operate the power trunk or liftgate, stand about three feet from your back bumper while holding your key fob, kick out your leg underneath the center of the bumper, and pull it away.
You should activate the sensor underneath the bumper and open the trunk or liftgate. You will need to kick out your leg and pull it away in a smooth motion; waving your leg from side to side under the sensor won't activate it. The sensor also won't work if anything is blocking the trunk or liftgate, so you won't have to worry about it accidentally closing on anything important.
If you have a liftgate and you need to adjust its maximum height, you can also do this by selecting the 3/4 setting on the liftgate switch and opening the gate as usual. Once it's reached its desired height, press the liftgate button on the key fob or touchpad to stop it, and press and hold the button again until you hear a beep and see your back turn signal lights flash.
While most newer Cadillac vehicles should come equipped with this feature, not all of them do.
