You’re likely becoming bored and frustrated due to social distancing in place because of the COVID-19 pandemic. You aren’t alone! While we all want to practice social distancing during this time, it can be challenging to keep our spirits up as we are isolated in our homes. If this is the case for you, check out the following five things you could try while you are stuck inside.
1. Keep up your exercise routine
If you can’t get to your gym, don’t despair. Download an app on your phone or choose one of the thousands of YouTube videos that you can exercise along to. If you can, go out alone and take a long walk in the sun. Grab your children and dance around the room. It’s essential to keep moving, for both your mental and physical health.
2. Watch something other than news
It’s pretty easy to leave the news on all day during a pandemic. We all want to know the latest news and alerts, but staying glued to the television isn’t doing you any good. Limit your exposure to a few times a day. Check the news in the morning and maybe a few times throughout the day, and then turn the channel off.
3. Find positive people
We all know the person who continuously posts news article after news article concerning the pandemic. Again, reading about it over and over isn’t helpful at all. Look for positive people and positive pages to lift your spirits. If you can’t find them, challenge yourself to become more positive on social media instead!
4. Enjoy a new skill
What better time than now to learn something that you have always wanted to do? Many websites are now offering free virtual learning classes that you can use to learn something fun and exciting. Check out the many virtual tours many museums are offering online to enjoy a virtual visit to a place you wouldn’t normally go to.
5. Practice self-care
While you are stuck at home, consider meditation as self-care. We could all use a little extra calm in our lives, and meditation has been proven to lower our stress and anxiety levels. If you have never meditated before, that’s okay. Download a meditation app or check YouTube for beginner meditation classes. Another way to slow down and relax is to try your hand at yoga. Again, look online for beginner classes that take it slow.
We are all in this together! Take care of yourself and others!
